You have experienced love like mine before
But this is not allowed

Coachella

Brandon Flowers, Cee Lo, Cold War Kids, Crystal Castles, Cut Copy, Interpol, Kele, Kings of Leon, Lauryn Hill, Robyn, The Morning Benders, Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, The Kills, Chromeo, Death From Above 1979, Ellie Goulding, Kanye West

No... I didnt just copy and paste all the artists on my itunes... This is just a small sample of the amazing lineup that was Coachella this past weekend in southern California.

Why couldnt I be there? Clear your schedule next April, because we're going.

I guess Osheaga is the next best thing seeing as it's in Montreal later this summer. Headliners include Eminem, Kid Cudi and Bright Eyes. Meh, that works. I'll be there.

Scream 4 was quite good

Scream 4 was quite good. In typical Scream fashion, the fourth installment satirized the horror genre for a new, some might say more sophisticated generation of movie goers. What the movie lacked in "horror" it made up for in witty dialogue, a plausible storyline and fantastic casting choices. Scream 4 was a lot of fun, something that the third film in the franchise seemed to forget, is an integral part of the movie's appeal. Scream was a post-modern, self referential horror movie that was quirky and funny while at the same time mixing in some genuine scares throughout. The latest in the franchise achieves the same level of "quirky and funny" although the scare factor was a little lacking. No complaints from me though, as I was thoroughly entertained and I'm glad to see this legendary series wrapped up so nicely and shown the respect it deserved, by producing a quality 4th entry that seemed to care just as much about the "Scream legacy" as it does about entertaining. Well done. Scream 4 is highly recommended for fans of the series and even those who arent too familiar with the previous installments. As a stand alone film, Scream 4 easily rivals the first 2 films as the series' best.

You go girls

Kristen Wiig is the funniest woman to have ever existed. That's just fact. Maya Rudolph is an extremely close second. Again, factual information. Why is this relevant? Well later this year, both women will be starring in the movie "Bridesmaids" which was co-written by Wiig and produced by Judd Apatow (40 year old virgin, Knocked up etc)

I'm very excited for this. Not just for the movie, but for the fame and notoriety that I hope is bestowed upon these two ultra-talented ladies come release time. Rudolph and Wiig are far too talented to be as non-famous as they are. Comedy nerds/SNL fans have been familiar with both for years but this year, the world will catch a glimpse of true talent when Bridesmaids hits theaters, which is being described as a female version of last year's The Hangover, only with a much more talented cast/writers. I hope it's just the start of a long and successful career in blockbuster comedy movies. Check out the trailer below which also features a cameo from Mr. Don Draper himself, Jon Hamm.

Nirvana fans get down quicker

If a girl has a tongue ring, she'll probably suck your dick. If a guy has a tongue ring, he'll probably suck your dick. If either of them are fans of Nirvana, they'll likely do it within hours of meeting you, that is, according to a recent study done by a music-based dating website in the UK.

The website (tastebuds.fm) compiled their data using a vague questionaire on how far one might go on a first date and cross-referenced the results with participant's taste in music. The results are pretty interesting to say the least.

It seems the most likely fans to "get down" on a first date are of Nirvana. Followed closely by Metallica, Linkin Park and Kanye West. And you thought the hip-hop/dance clubs had the most "promiscuous" partakers... That's false advertising if i've ever heard it, Ms. Furtado.

The least likely to get physical are fans of Coldplay(yawn), Adele(probably fat), Lady GaGa (really?!) and Katy Perry (right!!) so the next time you meet someone, depending on your motives, it may be quite useful to check their iPod playlist...You could save yourself some time and effort.

And since apparently my taste in music makes me a rabid slut, here's my favourite Nirvana song (its a Bowie cover if that makes a difference):

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight

Scream for Scream 4

Has it seriously been 15 years since the first Scream movie? Wow, and just when I thought I couldnt feel any older...BOOM!
Tomorrow, Scream 4 opens in theaters and I for one am quite excited about it as I've become a pretty big fan of the franchise. I remember seeing the trailer for the first one and not realizing that it was actually a slasher film at all. I honestly thought it was like PG suspense thriller type thing for some reason and yes 15 years ago, I'm not afraid to admit that I was scared shitless of horror movies (ok fine, i still am) and avoided them like the black plague(still do). Needless to say I was quite surprised (horrified) when I realized what type of movie Scream was, 15 minutes into it when Drew Barrymore is famously sliced up. Ahh memories. Anyways, here's a song I first heard on the Scream 2 soundtrack that has become one of my favourites.

You'll see him in your nightmares,
you'll see him in your dreams
He'll appear out of nowhere but
he ain't what he seems
You'll see him in your head,
on the TV screen
And hey buddy, I'm warning
you to turn it off

Edge retired. I'm officially old.

Some saddening news to share as this past Monday on Raw, Edge announced his retirement from wrestling. Edge will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest of all time and rightfully so. He is arguably the most accomplished wrestler to have ever lived and did so without any sort of political power (unlike some...I'm looking at you triple h). It is sad to see him go, but he has quietly accomplished every feat imaginable in the wrestling world, multiple times and will certainly be in the hall of fame in the near future.

With Edge retiring, I'm really starting to feel quite old. Like Stone Cold and HBK, Edge has been an institution within wrestling for over a decade who I've watched since I was very young and have witnessed their entire careers. It's weird, but these wrestlers have been in my life for longer than any of my friends and you sort of get a false sense of familiarity with them, just like with any celebrity I guess. And now, these men are retired. It's a very strange feeling that I'm having trouble describing. I guess we all get old eventually, but it's a sobering thought to think our best years could be behind us. I don't know if that applies to me yet, but it's only a matter of time before we all feel that way.

Update: Mick Foley has dedicated his latest blog entry to Edge's career and sums it up better than I, or anyone else ever could. If you're at all interested, read it.

I miss the old Kanye.

Remember when Kanye West had something to say? Me niether really, but he did! Kanye reminds me of Vinny from Jersey Shore after he got his ears pierced. Like young Vincenzo,  it seems that either after getting a little bit of shine or in an effort to shine brighter, completely changed his persona, and for the worse. Kanye is now completely 100% superficial pop image first, content last type of "artist". And the funniest part of it is that it's only now that he's getting the recognition he had deserved for years. Now though, it's unwarrented, tiresome and downright pathetic. Anyway, here's some classic Yeezy, back when those of us with a brain respected him.

Look how far we done came
Haters saying ya changed
Now ya doing ya thing

Lupe's Fiasco

Among last years most highly anticipated albums was Lupe Fiasco's Lasers which had been stuck in "developmental hell" almost since it was announced. Well, time went by and last month Lasers was finally released to a collective "Wtf?" from Lupe fans. To say the album was an utter disappointment would be a huge understatement. By now though, those who are interested, know the ongoing troubles Lupe has had with his label Atlantic and how they completely overhauled the project in an attempt to cross over into mainstream "hip-hop" kinda like when Benjamin and Noah's Arcade jizzed all over Waynes World. One snag though, Wayne and Garth weren't mainstream, and neither is Lupe. The result was Lupe going through the motions, producing a clusterfuck of half-poignant lyricism laid down on top of over-produced Flo-rida rejected beats. Just brutal.

But fear not, avid blog reader, as thanks to the beauty of the Internet, some of the tracks originally meant for Lasers have slowly been leaking, including a version of BOB's smash "Airplanes" which was originally meant for Lupe (along with BOB's other tolerable song, Nothing on You) and unlike the official release, Lupe doesn't disappoint.

If for some reason, you aren't familiar with Lupe Fiasco and his alternative brand of hip-hop, do yourself a favor and try it out. Here's "Beamin" which of course was not included on the official release of Lasers.

Source Code > Inception

I dont get out much, and when I do, it's rarely to the movies. So when I do go, I try to make it count. I try to see movies that I am interested in seeing, as oppose to movies that happen to be playing at the time I want to go to the theater. Last night, I made the decision to watch Source Code, and I was rewarded with an intelligent, multi-layered, and most importantly well-balanced film.

I'm not a film critic, nor do I have any desire to review the film, but I'd like to share a few thoughts about Source Code and its similarities to Inception, without giving too much away.

The film, at its core, deals with some heavy philosophical and ethical themes, much in the same vein as last year's blockbuster Inception, although Source Code take a more laissez-faire approach to how the audience interprets them. In my opinion, Inception was overly complicated and confusing and tried to pack too much into one movie. Conversely, Source Code contains all the more important and interesting elements of Inception, but instead of spelling out how deep and complicated the themes presented are (like in Inception) Source Code merely alludes to them throughout the film, and then ties them together by the films conclusion. I found this style to be far more effective in terms of emotional impact and even comprehension. I walked out of Inception not fully understanding anything I'd just witnessed, although I was entertained throughout. Source Code was not only entertaining, but afterward I was thinking more about the story and not trying to wrap my head around it.

I highly recommend Source Code, especially if you liked Inception and are finally ready to admit you didn't understand it either.

The Kills, resurrected

Speaking of favourite bands that are back together, The Kills have returned to release their latest Blood Pressure and have even decided to stream it for free on their website.

Not familiar? This should bring you up to speed.

On the edge of a dream that you have
Has anybody ever told you it's not coming true?

Party On

Have you ever watched a movie you didn't expect to like and while watching it, you suddenly find yourself enjoying it. And when it's over, you find yourself connected to the characters and emotionally effected by it? Then you give it some thought, and you realize that no other movie had made you feel that way, and maybe, just maybe, that movie is the best movie you'd ever seen? But you wouldn't necessarily elevate it to that level if you hadn't put into the context the emotional connection you felt to it? Not a complete lunatic who tends to overthink and analyze every smallest detail? Fair enough. But for me, that movie is Closer, and the musical equivalent to that is Bloc Party.

Bloc Party is my favourite band and I didn't even know it. I was weary at first, but I soon came to thoroughly enjoy all of their music. I've seen them live. They are far and away the most played band on my ipod. But I always thought that The Killers were my band. It turns out that while I do love The Killers, they don't elicit the same emotion from me as Bloc Party. No other music does, and isn't that the point? I gave it some thought and it made me realize how much I love their music. I realized Bloc Party is my favourite band.

No sooner did I realize this did the band announce they would be going on hiatus indefinitely, two years ago. (The Killers also took a break, although they made it clear they would reconvene when the time was right)

Kele did his solo thing, which was as experimental and weird as it was good, but it couldn't compare to what Bloc Party had been doing for years. And to add to that, it didn't look like they were to be reunited anytime soon, or so I thought. Until yesterday, when it was revealed the band would be getting back together this fall to work on new material.

Here's hoping the time apart served them well and all parties (pun intended) realize their best work is done collectively. Welcome back Bloc Party, you've been missed.

I was sitting, on the roof of my house
With a shotgun
And a six pack of beers, six pack of beers, six pack of beers.
The newscaster says, "The enemy is among us"
As bombs explode on the 30 bus,
Kill your middle class indecision,
Now is not the time for liberal thought,

So I go hunting for witches

I go hunting for witches
Heads are going to roll
I go hunting for..

90's,Optimistic as a teen.

Now its terror
airplanes crash into towers, into towers, into towers.

The Daily Mail says the enemies among us,

Taking our women and taking our jobs,
All reasonable thought is being drowned out by the non-stop baying, baying, baying for blood

So I go hunting for witches

I go hunting for witches
Heads are going to roll..
I was an ordinary man with ordinary desires
I watched TV, it informed me
I was an ordinary man with ordinary desires
There must be accountability
Disparate and misinformed
Fear will keep us all in place

So I go hunting for witches

I go hunting for witches
Heads are going to roll

I was an ordinary man with ordinary desires

I watched TV, it informed me
I was an ordinary man with ordinary desires
There must be accountability
Disparate and misinformed
Fear will keep us all in place
