Edge retired. I'm officially old.
Some saddening news to share as this past Monday on Raw, Edge announced his retirement from wrestling. Edge will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest of all time and rightfully so. He is arguably the most accomplished wrestler to have ever lived and did so without any sort of political power (unlike some...I'm looking at you triple h). It is sad to see him go, but he has quietly accomplished every feat imaginable in the wrestling world, multiple times and will certainly be in the hall of fame in the near future.
With Edge retiring, I'm really starting to feel quite old. Like Stone Cold and HBK, Edge has been an institution within wrestling for over a decade who I've watched since I was very young and have witnessed their entire careers. It's weird, but these wrestlers have been in my life for longer than any of my friends and you sort of get a false sense of familiarity with them, just like with any celebrity I guess. And now, these men are retired. It's a very strange feeling that I'm having trouble describing. I guess we all get old eventually, but it's a sobering thought to think our best years could be behind us. I don't know if that applies to me yet, but it's only a matter of time before we all feel that way.
Update: Mick Foley has dedicated his latest blog entry to Edge's career and sums it up better than I, or anyone else ever could. If you're at all interested, read it.
