Lupe's Fiasco
Among last years most highly anticipated albums was Lupe Fiasco's Lasers which had been stuck in "developmental hell" almost since it was announced. Well, time went by and last month Lasers was finally released to a collective "Wtf?" from Lupe fans. To say the album was an utter disappointment would be a huge understatement. By now though, those who are interested, know the ongoing troubles Lupe has had with his label Atlantic and how they completely overhauled the project in an attempt to cross over into mainstream "hip-hop" kinda like when Benjamin and Noah's Arcade jizzed all over Waynes World. One snag though, Wayne and Garth weren't mainstream, and neither is Lupe. The result was Lupe going through the motions, producing a clusterfuck of half-poignant lyricism laid down on top of over-produced Flo-rida rejected beats. Just brutal.
But fear not, avid blog reader, as thanks to the beauty of the Internet, some of the tracks originally meant for Lasers have slowly been leaking, including a version of BOB's smash "Airplanes" which was originally meant for Lupe (along with BOB's other tolerable song, Nothing on You) and unlike the official release, Lupe doesn't disappoint.
If for some reason, you aren't familiar with Lupe Fiasco and his alternative brand of hip-hop, do yourself a favor and try it out. Here's "Beamin" which of course was not included on the official release of Lasers.
